Trots ett av dess namn har jord\u00e4rtskockan inget f\u00f6rh\u00e5llande till vare sig Jerusalem eller kron\u00e4rtskocka. Det finns ingen vetenskaplig f\u00f6rklaring f\u00f6r namnet, f\u00f6rutom n\u00e5gra gissningar. En gissning \u00e4r att inflyttade Italienska b\u00f6nder bosatta i USA b\u00f6rjade kalla det \"girasole\", vilket uttalades \u00e5t liknade h\u00e5ll som Jerusalem. Och sedan skulle engelsktalande ha f\u00f6rvr\u00e4ngt ordet \"girasole\" (som betyder \"solros kron\u00e4rtskocka\") f\u00f6r Jerusalem Artichoke d\u00e5 den liknade en solros.
